Last Updated: October 10, 2025

This Privacy Policy describes how the GCK Canteen mobile application (“App”), developed for Govt College Kasaragod (“we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and handles your information when you use our application.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information to provide and improve the meal booking service for our students and staff.

  • Information You Provide: When an account is created for you, we collect personal information such as your Name, Phone Number, Email Address, Department, Course, and Admission Year.
  • Authentication Information: We store your password in a secure, hashed format.
  • Booking Information: We maintain a record of the meals you book, cancel, or consume, including the date and time of these actions.
  • Usage Information: For security and analytical purposes, our backend server may log information such as your IP address and user agent when you perform actions like logging in or validating a meal.

2. How We Use Your Information

The information we collect is used solely for the operation of the GCK Canteen meal program:

  • To Provide Services: To manage your account, process your meal bookings, generate your QR code ticket, and display your booking history.
  • To Communicate With You: To send password reset links and other essential service-related communications.
  • For Security: To protect against unauthorized access, prevent fraud, and enforce our account-locking policy for skipped meals.
  • To Improve Our Service: To generate aggregated, anonymous statistics for administrative purposes, such as daily booking totals for the canteen.

3. App Permissions

Our app requests the following permissions on your device:

  • Camera (android.permission.CAMERA): This permission is required only for Canteen Admin users. It allows them to use the device’s camera to scan and validate student meal ticket QR codes. This permission is not requested for student or staff users.
  • Write to External Storage (android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE): This permission is required for the “Save to Gallery” feature. It allows the app to save an image of your meal ticket to your device’s photo gallery for easy offline access. The app does not access, read, or modify any other files on your device.

4. Data Security

We are committed to protecting your information. We implement a variety of security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information:

  • Passwords are encrypted using industry-standard hashing algorithms.
  • Access to the backend database is restricted and protected.
  • Communication between the app and our server is encrypted.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. Your information is used exclusively for the purposes of the GCK Canteen program.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to access and update your personal information through the “Profile” section of the app. If you wish to delete your account, please contact your department administrator or the system’s Super Admin.

Our App is intended for use by the students and staff of Govt College Kasaragod. While the App is not primarily directed at children under the age of 13, we recognize that some of our student users may be considered children under applicable laws (such as the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)).
