The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is a voluntary youth organization in India that is part of the Indian Armed Forces. It was established in 1948 by a Parliamentary Act and is open to school and college students. The NCC’s goal is to develop disciplined and patriotic citizens through basic military training, social service, adventure training, and other activities.
The aims of the NCC are to develop the qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and sportsmanship and the ideals of selfless service among the youth to make them useful citizens.
The NCC unit of Govt. College Kasaragod is functioning under 32 Kerala Battalion, NCC, Payyannur with one NCC officer and 53 cadets. Under the leadership of various ANOs and care taker NCC officers, the NCC unit has achieved meritorious distinction.
Brief History of NCC
An NCC (Rifles) Unit has been functioning in the college since 1960 with an allotted strength of 160 Cadets. A Girls wing which functioned for a few years has been wound up. Capt. P K Sheshadri, Capt. M Shankaran, Capt. K K Geevarghese, Lt. A Shridharan, Capt. K Kamalaksha & 2/Lt. Anand Vishwanath held the office successfully. The unit had 139 cadet strength. Lt. Prakash Kumar K held the office from year 2012-19. Caretaker Sri. Gopinathan Nair A held the office from 2019-20. Lt. Lakshmi K is holding the office at present with a strength of 53 Cadets & is the First Lady NCC officer of our college.
